Pirelli will invest about 100 million euros in the Voronezh tire plant – the funds will be used to expand production capacity. The corresponding memorandum was signed by Rostec State Corporation and Pirelli Tyre Russia at the meeting of Vladimir Putin and the Prime Minister of Italy, Giuseppe Conte on Wednesday, October 24, the press service of Rostec reported.

Rosneft, Italy’s tire maker Pirelli and Poland’s chemical company Synthos have signed off on the results of the preliminary feasibility study for a synthetic rubber production project in the port of Nakhodka. The three companies are looking to set up a joint venture running on raw materials from Rosneft’s Eastern Petrochemical Company. In the project, Pirelli will take responsibility for rubber sales, while Synthos will contribute the technology. While nothing is yet known about prospective output, the global synthetic rubber market is estimated at 15m tonnes a year, with roughly 1.5m tonnes produced in Russia, including by such major suppliers as SIBUR and Nizhnekamskneftekhim. According to Rosneft President Igor Sechin, the joint venture will be distributing its rubber to China and other Asian markets on a long-term basis.

Italy-based tyre manufacturer Pirelli has announced the launch of its second production line at its Voronezh plant in southwest Russia.

Pirelli said the line will run test tyres until March 2013, when it is expected to begin making passenger, light truck/SUV and winter tyres. The Voronezh plant's first production line has an annual capacity of two million tyres, which will be doubled by 2014. The newest line is expected to reach two million units annually by the end of 2014.

“We’ll focus our attention on hi-tech tyres, especially winter tyres and tyres for off-road vehicles,” Pirelli Tire Russia Director, Carlo Costa, said.
