A high-tech drill rig production plant LLC NOV Kostroma opened in Kostroma Region. According to regional authorities, National Oilwell Varco from US invested over 4 bln rubles into the project.

The region’s largest producer of drill rigs for the oil and gas industry is located at Volgorechensk Industrial Park, just 40 km out of Kostroma. The plant neighbors with Europe’s largest hydro power plant, Kostromskaya HPP, and another industrial colossus – Volgorechensk Pipe Plant. According to the authorities, the new plant has an important strategic role, as it will manufacture drill rigs with various bearing capacities and servicing rigs for wells and other equipment. The plant will supply its products to the Russian market and to customers in Europe.

“LLC NOV Kostroma is a large-scale investment project that seeks to establish production of drill rigs to enable import phaseout in a strategic sector of Russia’s national industry. The plant will have shops manufacturing drill rigs and downhole equipment, an assembly shop, as well as shot blasting and painting shop. Process equipment installation is now in the final stage,” says the announcement.

Construction of the plant began three years ago, after the project had been included in the regional investment projects list and granted maximum preferential treatment. Budgetary funds were utilized to build a 24.5 mln ruble access road and connect the facility to natural gas trunk line.

The plant will have over 300 new jobs.
