The big news of the first day of the International Aviation and Space Salon MAKS 2015 was the signing of an agreement between Airbus Defence and Space (ADS) and Joint Stock Company Russian Space Systems on the commencement of satellite equipment production in Russia. The news was reported by Izvestia.

According to Russian Space Systems chief Andrei Tyulin, the two companies have already agreed upon the range of items to be manufactured and released in Russia under the Russian Space Systems subsidiary Sinertek.

“We have prepared a joint programme with Airbus on the development and production of a large range of radio systems and modules for space applications,” Tyulin said.

He noted that representatives of the French company were planning in the coming weeks to visit the Russian Space Systems production facilities in Moscow, near the Baumanskaya underground station where Sinertek will soon take up its new offices.

“We immediately agreed with Airbus that Sinertek products would be offered on both the Russian and international markets,” the Russian Space Systems chief noted.

Tyulin explained that Sinertek would produce equipment for navigation and communication satellites and remote sensing devices (D33).

The Head of Airbus Defence and Space in Russia, Vladimir Terekhov, added that the Sinertek Board of Directors was scheduled to meet on 26 August at MAKS 2015, where they will discuss and confirm a cooperation plan and the stages of its implementation.

According to a source close to Sinertec’s management, the parties will first discuss organising production of power amplifiers and converters to be used on GLONASS-K satellites.

Tsiolkovsky Russian Academy of Cosmonautics corresponding member Andrei Ionin believes that the creation of the joint venture will help Airbus Defence and Space, which plans to continue its work in Russia.
