Sichuan Lutianhua Company Limited

The Khimprom chemical production facility in Novocheboksarsk (Chuvash Republic) is to be the site for the manufacture of glyphosate, the most widely used herbicide in the world. The project will be co-financed by a number of Chinese companies, according to the official website of the government of the Chuvash Republic. On 7 August, Orgsyntes Group signed a cooperation agreement with Chinese companies Sichuan Beier Chemcial Group and Sichuan Lutianhua, as well as the Sichuan regional administration, as part of the fourth Round Table meeting of the leaders of the respective Russian and Chinese regions.

The new facility at Khimprom will be used to manufacture glyphosate and its derivatives. According to preliminary estimates, a total of $2 billion will be invested in the project, which has been slated for completion in 2016–2017. “The project, which combines Chinese technology and investments with Khimprom’s developed infrastructure, has already been included in the list of 32 priority projects to be carried out as part of cooperation activities between Russia and China,” the regional administration’s press service explains. The Ministry of Economic Development of the Chuvash Republic has pointed out that particular attention will be paid to the safety of the new production facilities: “The people of Novocheboksarsk and its surrounding have absolutely no cause for concern when it comes to the safety of the project. Every stage in the development of the project will be tightly controlled. This includes monitoring and control of technologies being shipped in from China, which are the most advanced in the world. All safety standards, including environmental safety standards, will be followed to the letter,” said Khimprom representative V. Avrelkin. Khimprom is one of Russia’s largest chemical enterprises, producing over 150 types of chemical product. The company is a subsidiary of Orgsyntes Group, which was created to monitor direct investments in the chemical industry.
