The British medical device manufacturer Smith & Nephew has announced purchase of the Russian traumatology and orthopaedics business company Deost, as well as the production company DiSi, which belongs to the group. The sum of the deal has not been made public. Deost has been the official distributor of Smith & Nephew products in Russia since 2009. The simultaneous purchase of the DiSi production company, located in Pushchino in the Moscow area, will allow Smith & Nephew to set up local production and sale of traumatology products of the middle price segment and expand its portfolio of output presented in Russia.

As a result of the deal, Smith & Nephew will be joined by the 350 employees of Deost and DiSi, bringing Smith & Nephew’s total staff numbers up to about 14 th., which will mean that the company enters the FTSE100. “Smith & Nephew has been developing its business in Russia since 2005. This transaction allows us to take another step in implementing our strategy of creating our own platform on developing markets and greatly strengthen our presence in Russia. In addition, we will be able to use the dynamics of the market and ensure better servicing of our clients”, the company press release quotes the British firm CEO Olivier Bohuon.
