The new Leningrad region-based plant has a capacity of over 1m meters of pipes a year.

A new plastic pipe production plant has opened in the Tosno district of the Leningrad region. According to a source in the region’s government cited by Regnum New Agency, the new operation boasts a production capacity of over 1m meters of pipes a year.

“I am very optimistic and hopeful that our Russian arm and the new manufacturing unit intended to market its products primarily in the Leningrad region and St. Petersburg, will contribute to the company’s steadily growing presence on the market as we move forward,” Uponor President and CEO Jyri Luomakoski said.

According to Uponor CEO, the Finnish-Russian cooperation is best exemplified by the fact that Russia is now home to over 600 Finnish companies and organizations, most of them in the northwestern region. “Moreover, at least 100 companies have already invested locally, with investments running as high as EUR 12bn, which clearly shows the full confidence the Finnish business has in the Russian market,” Deputy Director of the Department for External Economic Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Finland Ilkka Saarinen said.

According to the Leningrad region’s government, the facility became the first plant to be launched in Russia by Uponor, a producer of heating and water supply solutions.

The facility in the Tosno district will be producing pre-insulated Uponor Ecoflex pipes, with its annual output projected to surpass 1m meters of pipes.
