Within two years, OBI, a German DIY retailer, will upgrade its network in Saint Petersburg and renovate five hypermarkets. It expects to attract new customers and increase its average bill due to the store renovation. In total, the retailer's store improvement program will involve 27 outlets across the country.

OBI, German DIY-retailer, launched a project to modernize all hypermarkets in the Russian network. Investments in this project may amount to about €27 million. It is expected that by the end of 2020 all hypermarkets will be rebuilt.

The building of a large trade center selling construction materials and household goods, OBI, was launched in the city of Dmitrov, in the Moscow region. As Construction.RU was told by the press office of the regional Construction Ministry, LLC Arus had received a permit to build OBI store in the city of Dmitrov. A retail facility with a total area of 9,700 square meters will have a product range of household and building product of a DIY category. Over 300 jobs are expected to be created at the enterprise. A total amount of investments in the project will be 1 billion rubles. At present, OBI operates 25 hypermarkets in Russia. In 2017, its network will be expanded with seven trade outlets more, most of which will be erected in Moscow and Moscow region.

The German home improvement and gardening product company OBI will invest over $300 million expanding its Russian branch over the next three years, OBI Russia CEO Ivan Strickland told Kommersant Thursday.

"In the next three years we are planning to open 18 more stores. This is real," CEO Strickland said.

According to Strickland, OBI is going to open five-six stores a year over the next three years. Twelve new stores will be opened on rental properties, the remaining six will be built from the ground up by OBI.

The cost of one purpose-built OBI retail space is estimated at $24 million to $37 million, whereas the cost of refurbishing a rental property is about $8.5 million, the company representative said.

OBI opened its first two retail stores in Moscow in 2003. There are currently 24 stores in Russia. OBI operates 570 stores in 12 central and eastern European countries.
