A locomotive repair works worth almost seven billion rubles was built in Engels with the participation of Canadian Company Bombardier, said the Saratov Region Government press service to RIA News.

The first stone in the works’ foundations was installed in 2013. The total amount of investments in this project amounted to 6.8 billion rubles. Funds for the project were supplied by WEB-Leasing, a subsidiary of Vnesheconombank. Canadian Company Bombardier holding an interest in the JV participates in the technical part of the project implementation.

A two-system locomotive to be assembled at the works has been engineered by Bombardier. The Canadian company’s representatives helped Saratov specialists assemble the first two-system locomotive that had never been manufactured in the RF before. The first locomotive will go to the EXPO 1520 International Railway Salon.

The works will manufacture two-system (alternating and direct current) freight mainline electric locomotives. They are supposed to be supplied to the markets of Russia, the CIA, and foreign countries where railway tracks are 1520 millimeters wide. The designed capacity of the works is 150 locomotives a year.
