BWT Group

The Federal Antimonopoly Service (FAS) reported yesterday that it had permitted Austria’s BWT Group to acquire Russian drinking water filter producer Barrier. The purchase will involve two companies – CJSC Mettem Technologies and LLC Dakron. The key of the two companies – Mettem Technologies – owns all the assets, trademarks, developments and the Barrier brand. It also owns production sites in the Moscow Region and the rights to scientific research and developments.

The transaction must still be approved by the regulators of the countries where Mettem Technologies operates (primarily CIS countries), but it is scheduled to be completed prior to the end of 2015.

BWT Group is one of Europe’s largest manufacturers of water treatment systems and works under the brands BWT, Cillit, HOH, Permo and Christ Aqua. The group had revenue of EUR 505.3 million in 2014 (down 0.5% from 2013) and pre-tax profit of EUR 19.1 million.

BWT Group’s annual report indicates that it signed a framework agreement to buy a majority stake in Mettem Technologies back in January 2015. Mettem Technologies has “leading positions on the Russian market” and is a strong brand, the report says.
