The Avtotor plant in Kaliningrad has started production of the renewed Kia Sorento Prime crossover, its sales will start in Russia in February, the company's representative Sergey Lugovoy told reporters on Thursday.
Avtotor, Russian holding company, has started production of new KIA Stinger cars at its plant in Kaliningrad. This was announced on Thursday by Sergey Lugovoy, head of the department for social development, public relations and mass media of the company.
The Russian Avtotor holding started production of the new model of the C-class sedan KIA Cerato at the plant in Kaliningrad. The press office of the company informs about it.
The car is produced in the full-cycle mode: welding-painting-assembly. In the course of production assimilation, die and welding line tooling was replaced. The sales of the new KIA Cerato will start in the dealer network in December, the press relations office reported.

The Kaliningrad-based facility of Russia’s carmaking group Avtotor has launched the updated version of executive saloon KIA Quoris, TASS reported citing Avtotor’s press office.
The KIA Quoris sedan was first produced in March 2012, and was launched into production at Avtotor facilities in January 2013. Since then, approximately 1,500 Quoris cars have rolled off its production line.
Avtotor’s partnership with KIA dates back to 1997. Avtotor’s Kaliningrad facility produces KIA Sorento, SorentoPrime, Cerato, Quoris, cee’d, Sporage, Optima, Soul, Venga and Mohave cars.
Set up in 1994 in Kaliningrad, the Russian holding Avtotor was the first Russian company to manufacture foreign cars. Since 1997, it has produced over 1.4m automobiles.
The Kaliningrad facility produces BMW, KIA, Hyundai and Daewoo cars. In 2013, it started to implement its full-scale automobile production project aiming at a capacity of at least 250,000 cars a year.
The Avtotor plant, part of the Kaliningrad automotive cluster, begins the production of the new third-generation KIA Sorento Prime, the automaker announced on Friday.
The new model will be equipped with a 2.2-liter, 200 HP engine, an automatic transmission and a five or seven seat layout.
The wheelbase has been extended by 80 mm. The body is 52.7% made from high-strength steel. Suspension has been upgraded too.
Avtotor is currently producing two KIA Sorento models. In addition to the Sorento Prime, another KIA Sorento model has been produced in a full-cycle mode since November 2013. The Kaliningrad automotive cluster is home to the manufacturers of the BMW, Kia, Hyundai, TATA, and Daewoo cars.
Johnston Controls and Youngsan Kld began installing equipment for production of a full range of seats for the Kia Sorento and the Kia Cerato. The installation work will take about a month, and Johnston Controls and Youngsan Kld will begin mass production of car seats in September.
During the first phase, the new enterprise’s production capacity will be 50 thousand seats per year and will create 90 additional jobs.
The Kia Sorento has been operating on a complete production cycle at Avtotor since November of 2013. Currently, welding production is being organized so the Kia Cerato can be released on a complete cycle. The anticipated production is 50 thousand cars per year. Equipment for the new welding line has already been delivered to a factory in Kaliningrad, and installation will begin in September. The total invested into the project amounted to about 500 million rubles.
